The Heavens, which Zeus was the God of.

Zeus' Story

Zeus was the youngest of all his siblings. Cronus, which was Zeus’ father swallowed all of his children, he swallowed his children so they could not overrule him when they grew old enough. Cronus planned to swallow Zeus as well, but Zeus’ mother Rhea hid Zeus in a cave on Mount Dicte in Crete when he was a baby. Cronus and Rhea were Titans. Cronus was a jealous and greedy deity. The cave is now called “The Cave Of Zeus”.

Zeus was raised secretly from birth in a cave on Mount Dicte in Crete. He was raised by Adamenthea because his father tried to swallow him so his mother hid him. Adamanetha was a Nymph and a goat nurse who nursed and concealed Zeus. She fed him honey and milk.

As Zeus got older he made Cronus throw up all of his siblings, who included his two brothers Hades and Poseidon and his three sisters, Hestia, Demeter and Hera. Together they fought to gain control of the universe from the Titans and their father. Zeus defeated his father, because he tried to swallow him or in other words kill him so he would never be able to over rule him. After Zeus defeated Cronus and the other Titans he placed them in jail in the Underworld.

Zeus had a symbol, which was the Thunderbolt. The thunderbolt was made on Mount Etna. He got his symbol for the Cyclops because he released him from his chamber, and he received it after he did so. Zeus used his symbol to fight his father and the Titans. The Titans are the siblings of Cronus or also known as the first generation of aunts and uncles to Zeus. The battle between them was called the Titanomachy and was fought on Mount Olympus.

Once they gained control of the universe, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades divided it so each has control over something. Zeus has the most control, because he rescued everyone so the gods agreed to make him supreme ruler of all gods. He ruled the sky, and was in charge of the Earth and Mount Olympus. Poseidon ruled the sea. Hades ruled the sky, and was in charge of the Earth and Mount Olympus. Poseidon ruled the sea. Hades ruled the Underworld.

Zeus’ father married his sister Rhea, who was also known as Zeus’ mother. Cronus and Rhea got married because they were the first beings and there were no others. Zeus married his sister Hera. Zeus tricked Hera into marrying him by disguising himself as a wounded bird. When Hera went to help his he turned himself back to himself and raped her.

Zeus was never faithful and because of this his wife Hera who was the queen of all goddesses, was never faithful either. His wife planned to get revenge on him and by this she drugged him and insisted the other gods be a part of this. They tied Zeus up while he was drugged. Briareus, who was one of the storm giants, mostly a god of sea storms witnessed the stunt and he untied Zeus. Zeus hung his wife from the sky with gold chains for a whole night and offered to untie her the next day if she promised to never cross him again.

Zeus had lots of kids. As we know he was not loyal to his wife Hera, so his children were from different mothers. Zeus rapped the young ladies or seduced them with devious ways. Zeus first wife was Metis and their child was Athena who was the goddess of wisdom, war, patriotism and good citizenship. Zeus second wife was Themis and their children were Atropos, Clotho, Lachesis, Horae, Eunomia, Dike and Eirene. His third wife was Eurynome who was Metis’s sister and their children were Aglaia, Euphrosyne and Thalia. His fourth wife was Demeter, which was his sister and their child was Persephone, who became queen of the underworld. His fifth wife was Mnemosyne and they had nine children, Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melphomene, Poyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia and Urania. His Sixth wife was Hera, which was also his sister. Their children were Ares, Eileithyia, Hebe and Hephaestus.

Back then every four years the Olympians honored Zeus by having a festival in Olympus. The festival included games. Now people still gather for Olympian games, but they no longer honor Zeus.

There is a big sculpture of Zeus that was carved by Phedias, who was known as the greatest ancient Greek sculptor, from gold and ivory. The statue is located in Olympia in a workshop behind the temple. The statue was the most celebrated, and it was built there because that’s where the Olympian games took place and they wanted to honor Zeus. The statue was built around 450 BC.

Karina's Zeus Writing

Explanation Of Music : Zeus is known for his symbol the thunder bolt. So in the music I added thunder noises and a light but dark background that I thought fit his character.

Explanation Of Color : I used the colors orange and yellow to represent Zeus' background. His thunderbolt is yellow and orange, and his thunderbolt is very important to his so it should be known. Also in the picture of heaven it is orange and a little yellow. This should be represented as well since Zeus is the God of Heaven.
